Quinine

Quinine is an antiparasitic. You can buy it without a prescription at most grocery stores and liquor stores in the form of tonic water.

I ran the numbers once. If I recall correctly, it takes like 100 ounces of tonic water to hit a medicinal dose of quinine. That's roughly three liters of tonic water per day.

However, consuming that much or more can cause cinchonism. This is a set of side effects named after the tree it comes from: The Cinchona tree.

Headache, nausea and blurred vision are some of the more common and less severe such symptoms. I've experienced it. It's unpleasant. I don't recommend it.

If you have had migraine headaches, it is vaguely reminiscent of that.

If you have a parasitic infection, one or more 8 ounce glasses a day of diet tonic water may reduce cravings for other drugs you may be taking by helping to keep the parasite in check some. And at that level, you shouldn't have bad side effects from the Quinine.

Other uses include: Treating excess yeast, treating excess acidity.

Proviso: Don't overdo it. Excess consumption can make your stomach too alkaline which can cause you to be unable to digest food and begin vomiting food back up instead. It works fine as an emergency remedy for being too acid but it is not the best means for addressing pH balance.
