Regional Die Off

Regional die off can occur when there are extremes of heat or cold for the area. I've talked once before about regional die off and here is an excerpt:

Georgia is semi-tropical and I was living without a car. I would walk to the store and if there was a dead racoon or something on the side of the road, you could watch it rot and visibly shrink and disappear over the course of a FEW DAYS if you walked past that same spot every single day.

There was a dead animal on the side of the road after the snow and it didn't rot. It looked preserved for maybe a week or more before it began rotting.

It seems like the snow and cold spell killed a lot of the microbes responsible for rotting. This is a thing I refer to as regional die off and it can also be caused by extreme heat waves.

Now regional die off causes a lot of stuff -- microbes, mold, fungus -- to die in the environment and on surfaces. People can also react but may not fully clear out infection without some assistance.

I notice people cough more when I am out and about during heat waves or extremes of cold, which suggests they are experiencing die off but most people probably aren't doing anything to support the process of clearing out chronic infections.

I tend to feel it a lot in my sinuses because molds and such are dying. I'm primarily a sinus sufferer, which is part of why I lived as long as I did before getting diagnosed, and the thing is sinuses filter air going to the lungs. So in people with more severe forms of cystic fibrosis, the sinus issues are so bad that the lungs are largely unprotected and it's part of why they get so many lung infections.

And this has implications for events like the fires in Hawaii currently where you will see regional die off, people with lung damage from smoke inhalation and people having sinus issues in reaction to the regional die off and general stress on their system. Treating sinus issues, for example with irrigating them, can help mitigate lung issues when there is so much going on in the environment.

For lungs, oil of oregano can be taken to treat for lung infections and for mold/fungal exposures and if someone is reacting really badly to the fires, smoke, etc. it may be that they are having die off in their system and need some support to help successfully combat it.

Oil of oregano only failed me ONCE when I was brewing another case of bronchitis/potential pneumonia. It is generally helpful with infection in the lungs and specifically helps kill molds and fungus.

I also spent months using poultice regularly and nebulized xylitol saline for my lungs to help gently kill stuff and keep me out of the ER and off of antibiotics until I was stronger and my body could more readily combat infection on its own.

At the risk of upsetting readers: If more people will actually treat for infection when they develop a cough during regional die off events, the heat waves and such fostered by climate change have the potential to help control the spread of disease and prevent the next epidemic.

But not all on its own. People need to intentionally help it along and kill off what is in their system causing their cough or it adapts.

Footnote

It's a known thing that tempers flare, etc. during heat waves. Odds are high that regional die off impacting the sinuses is a factor in these mood issues and poor judgement calls because, as noted previously, stuff happening in the sinuses has a fairly direct connection to the brain. (Also: Fungal stuff is psychoactive, which creates a double whammy.)
